    Distracted Driving Project 2016

    January 20, 2017 by ProfK 5 Comments

Our first project for my Graphic Design 2 class last semester (fall 2016) was a Distracted Driving Campaign. This is a subject that touches all of us, and I was really impressed with the students’ level of commitment and analytical thought in tackling the project. We had good discussions about our own experiences and all of the ways a person could be distracted while driving. Foremost on our list was texting and use of a cell phone. Also included on our list: drinking, drugs, too much talking, loud music, reading, using the computer, and applying makeup, all while driving! I thought the students did a great job researching the issue, sharing stories and ideas, and designing effective campaigns.

We discovered many groups doing the hard work of educating the public about distracted driving. Students could choose an existing group or invent their own for the purposes of the project campaign. A few organizations stood out for us and are worth mentioning here:

    • It Can Wait
    • Decide to Drive
    • EndDD (End Distracted Driving)

We’ve has been working with a group called Vision Zero that’s trying (and failing, so far) to get pedestrian deaths down to zero by 2020, I think. They’re trying to come up with a lot of ideas to slow cars down, educate people, protect pedestrians (many seniors and people with disabilities), and involve families who have someone who’s been seriously injured or killed as pedestrians. The group WalkSF heads the efforts.

You do great work and students are lucky to have you.

Thanks for sending these anti-texting and anti-bullying posters. They are so insightful and offer some real punch. This is good work.

My dear sweet sister. I can’t tell you how much I love your pictures. I so much wanted something and was so sorry that I couldn’t pick something out at your sale. On the other hand, I so much wanted something that you had chosen for me. Its been on my mind and suddenly, your beautiful pictures arrived. They are beyond beautiful and I cried when I saw them. Sending you love and my bestness.
